Adaptive Multi-Rate Designs and Analysis for Hybrid FSO/RF Systems over Fading Channels

چکیده
SUMMARY This paper proposes the concept of adaptive multi-rate (AMR), which jointly employs switching between two links and adaptive rate on each link, for hybrid free-space optical/radio-frequency (FSO/RF) systems. Moreover, we present the cross-layer design of AMR switching, which is based on both the physical and link layers with an automatic-repeat request (ARQ) scheme. We develop an analytical framework based on a Markov chain model for system performance analysis. System performance metrics, including frame-error rate, goodput and link switching probability, are analytically studied over fading channels. Numerical results quantitatively show how the proposal significantly outperforms conventional ones with physical layer-based design and/or fixed-rate switching operation. key words: hybrid FSO/RF, turbulence channel, automatic-repeat request (ARQ), adaptive multi-rate (AMR)

Performance Analysis of Multi-hop Parallel Free-Space Optical Systems Over Exponentiated Weibull Fading Channels Optimized By Particle Swarm Optimization
The performance of multi-hop parallel free-space optical (FSO) communication systems with decode-and-forward (DF) protocol over exponentiated Weibull (EW) fading channels has been investigated. Average bit error rate (ABER) and outage probability (OP) performance are analyzed under different turbulence conditions, receiver aperture size and structure parameters (R, C). The ABER and OP for FSO s...
متن کاملRelay-Assisted Mixed FSO/RF Systems over Málaga-M and κ-μ Shadowed Fading Channels
This letter presents a unified analytical framework for the computation of the ergodic capacity and the outage probability of relay-assisted mixed FSO/RF transmission. In addition to accounting for different FSO detection techniques, the mathematical model offers a twofold unification of mixed FSO/RF systems by considering mixed Málaga-M/κ-μ shadowed fading, which includes as special cases near...
متن کاملPartial Relay Selection for Hybrid RF/FSO Systems with Hardware Impairments
In this paper, we investigate the performance analysis of dual hop relaying system consisting of asymmetric Radio Frequency (RF)/Free Optical Space (FSO) links. The RF channels follow Rayleigh distribution and the optical links are subject to Gamma-Gamma fading. We also introduce impairments to our model and we suggest Partial Relay Selection (PRS) protocol with Amplify-and-Forward (AF) fixed g...
متن کاملBit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
متن کاملRate-adaptive Techniques for Free-space Optical Channels
Free-space optical (FSO) communication has witnessed rapid development recently in response to ever-increasing demands for greater bandwidth. FSO links provide fiberspeed with the flexibility of wireless. Commercially available systems offer transmission speeds up to 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps, and demonstration systems report data rates as high as 160 Gbps. This is usually not possible with ...
